I like your framing. To me, if I ever say "ban cars," what I usually mean is "take driving seriously." It's not as much of a zinger though.

I see people say "ban cars" and then I see them confused when ordinary folks think they really mean *ban cars.* I come from the center-right, and I also dislike the way the internet incentives snark and hyperbole, so I try to be straightforward and clear when I say things.

I realize something "ban cars" plays to a certain audience and is understood in a certain context. I can also tell you how hard it is to explain to a conservative that "no, they don't really want to ban cars"!

When I say it, it's usually in the context of, for example, some local politician calling to ban ecigs after 3 kids went to the hospital or something. If we applied the same logic and standards to everything...
