Small towns often repurpose old storefronts as residences without changing the front. In my neighborhood there's a house that was obviously a corner store in an earlier life, retaining the display window.
Above the theater reminds me... Enid formerly had lots of upstairs apartments above stores. One apartment was above a movie theater, with a window looking toward the screen so the residents could watch free movies.
