Pizza Hut was a great read. Thank you and keep at it. We love in Planning/Zoning love this stuff.

Thank you! Pizza Hut seems to be the most popular standard building to revisit today in terms of how it gets reused. It's an excellent example of brand-specific architecture entering what I like to call the "architectural public domain." And my own piece was really fun to write. Glad you enjoyed it!

"But I remind myself that people online are often talking to their own audiences, treating the internet as a living room or a casual conversation with friends." Absolutely. Lots of preaching to the choir. It's sorta funny how many tweets try to be persuasive, but then only really pick up engagement from the people who already agree with them.

Because I sometimes wince at the way people (even people I agree with) carry themselves online, I always ask myself, "If I saw what I'm about to write with no context or backstory, would I react to it negatively?" And if so I try to rework it.

CD longboxes were later cardboard, but first they were non-theft plastic. Basically impenetrable. I am glad you mentioned Rob’s piece! We are now also seeing a cassette revival; the resurgence of vinyl LPs has many regretting selling their record collections. The problem with a turntable is that it does not work very well in a car. Some years ago I was thrilled to find a Mercedes with a tape deck and to haul out all of my tapes (btw, Rob is an excellent writer and his book “Love is a Mixtape” is worth reading: Bring your own Kleenex). Perhaps there is a tradeoff in sound quality (that only men seem to understand), but driving and listening to music is one of my great luxuries in life, so I have been glad to keep those old CDs and cassettes. It was a great sign of either love or good friendship when someone made you a tape. (You need to come to Charlottesville, Addison! One of our most popular eateries, Bodo’s Bagels, repurposed three fast-food restaurants!) ⭐️🎶
