Maybe the water inside is condensation that is not drained? Great saga of homeownership.

Haha, thank you!

Yeah I'm not a pro, but if it's the condensation drain line, I've heard to pour a little bleach or vinegar into that every year.

We're dealing with mice at our place that we just got in August... after a pipe burst in January. I had half a mind to write a post like this myself.

I'm having similar thoughts about my new 3D printer. After a few mistakes a couple weekends ago, I've had to buy some replacement parts. It's pretty clear that the overall quality of this (admittedly "entry level") machine is... shitty... so it likewise feels shitty to have to buy parts from the very same shitty manufacturer.

I've resolved to only buy one set of "shitty parts" in order to see if they work, and then anything else will be aftermarket upgrades.

Homeownership is a fraud. But seriously, if you had your annual furnace tune and clean and they didn't catch that, you might want to find a new company.

No, haven't had it tuned up at all yet - the company they used to use that has its sticker on the unit is out of business and we just didn't get to it yet. This winter.

I used to think it was a waste of money -- my parents never had ours served as a kid -- until the year the furnace guy removed a mice nest from inside of it.

We just had a similar experience. We didn't prioritize the annual maintenance in our relatively new house, and then the furnace crapped out on an 11* day (in Austin!). An expensive lesson to learn!
