It seems to be a pretty common issue, yet neither I nor my dad who does a lot of home improvement stuff had ever heard of plumbing crossover. My parents have the same shower faucet, too. I wonder how many people have no real idea you can actually work on modern faucets with basically no plumbing knowledge. I've now fixed two leaky bathroom sink faucets and two stiff old shower faucets with new cartridges! (The local shutoff valves not working is another fun issue...)
Similar reaction here. As soon the symptoms were described, I’m thinking, “cartridge replacement.” I know little about plumbing, but for whatever reason, circumstance and experience have conspired to teach me that little nugget of knowledge.
Many Moen fixtures have a lifetime warranty. Just call their 800 number and tell them what you need and they'll usually send it to you for free. We had a drip in the kitchen faucet that came in our RV when we bought it used. Even though I wasn't the original owner and it wasn't in a house, Moen still sent me the parts to repair it!
Too funny. As soon as I started reading your post, I wondered if it was about a damaged cartridge.
We had the same problem with temp control in several of our showers courtesy of some older control fixtures so I have been in that exact same place.

Huh, that’s interesting.
